Goddess Parvati is regarded as the power and divine consort of Lord Shiva - the Destroyer. Like her consort Shiva, Goddess Parvati is said to have both mild and terrible aspects She is the daughter of the mountain king Himavan and queen Mena. Parvati is the mother of Hindu deities Ganesha and Kartikeya. The Puranas also referenced her to be the sister of the preserver god Vishnu and the river goddess Ganga. With Shiva, Parvati is a central deity in the Shaiva sect. Goddess Parvati is known by different names like Lalita, Uma, Gauri, Kali, Durga, Haimavati etc.Goddess Parvati name means mountain as the Sanskrit word for “Parvati” is “parvat”. She is the consort of Lord Shiva and mother to Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha. She is the reincarnation of Sati who was the first wife of Lord Shiva. There is quite an interesting story regarding the birth and marriage of Goddess Parvati.

जय पार्वती माता जय पार्वती माता |

ब्रह्मा सनातन देवी शुभफल की दाता |

अरिकुलापदम बिनासनी जय सेवक्त्राता,

जगजीवन जगदंबा हरिहर गुणगाता |

सिंह को बाहन साजे कुण्डल हैं साथा,

देबबंधु जस गावत नृत्य करा ताथा |

सतयुगरूपशील अतिसुन्दर नामसतीकहलाता,

हेमाचल घर जन्मी सखियन संग राता |

शुम्भ निशुम्भ विदारे हेमाचल स्थाता,

सहस्त्र भुजा धरिके चक्र लियो हाथा |

सृष्टिरूप तुही है जननी शिव संगरंग राता,

नन्दी भृंगी बीन लही है हाथन मद माता |

देवन अरज करत तब चित को लाता,

गावन दे दे ताली मन में रंगराता |

श्री प्रताप आरती मैया की जो कोई गाता,

सदा सुखी नित रहता सुख सम्पति पाता |
